Local sugar price has reached K1,500 per viss in a week of price hike hitting a record high price in over 40 years, according to sugar and molasses dealers.
Local sugar price in the first week of August was K1,300 per viss compared to K1,500 in the second week. This is because some warehouses remained closed during days that the government ordered them to close and some businessmen are manipulating the prices, U Win Htay, a sugar businessman, said.
“This is because of strong dollar rates, sugar price hikes in the international market, and local traders manipulating the prices. And some warehouses did not open during the days the government ordered them to close and the closing days have increased until August 15. This makes the supply eased as the stock remained in the warehouse. When they opened the prices will go down,” U Win Htay said.

ပြည်တွင်းသကြားစျေးသည် ပြီးခဲ့သည့် သြဂုတ်လပထမအပတ်အထိ တစ်ပိဿာလျှင် ကျပ် ၁၃၀၀ သာ စျေးရှိခဲ့ရာမှယခုအခါတွင် တစ်ပိဿာလျှင် ကျပ် ၁၅၀၀ အထိ စျေးမြင့်တက်လာကြောင်း၊စျေးမြင့်တက်ရသည့် အကြောင်းအရင်းမှာ ရုံးပိတ်ရက်များတွင် အချို့ဂိုထောင်များမှ ဖွင့်မပေးခြင်း၊ ပြည်တွင်းသကြား လုပ်ငန်းရှင်များ၏ စျေးကစားခြင်းကြောင့် စျေးမြင့်တက်လာခြင်းဖြစ်ကြောင်း သကြားလုပ်ငန်းရှင်တစ်ဦးဖြစ်သူ ဦးဝင်းဌေးက ပြောကြားသည်။
“ဒေါ်လာစျေးတက်တာရယ်၊ နိုင်ငံတကာစျေးတက်တာရယ်၊ ပြည်တွင်းမှာက ကုန်သည်တွေ နည်းနည်းစျေးကစားတာရယ်၊ စျေးကစားတာက ရုံးပိတ်ရက်တွေမှာ အချို့ဂိုထောင်တွေက ဖွင့်မပေးဘူး။ အခုက သြဂုတ် ၁၅ ရက်အထိ ထပ်တိုးပိတ်ထားတာလေ။ အဲတော့ ဂိုထောင်ထဲ အောင်းသွားတော့ တကယ်အရောင်းအဝယ်လုပ်တဲ့ ပြင်ပမှာနည်းနေတော့ အဲလိုဖြစ်သွားတာ၊ ရုံးဖွင့်ရက်ကျ ပြန်အေးသွားမှာပါ။” ဟု သကြားလုပ်ငန်းရှင် ဦးဝင်းဌေးက သြဂုတ် ၁၂ ရက်တွင် ပြောကြားသည်။
